Swift Justice in Support of Lawful Carrying of Firearms Proves Positive Climate for 2nd Amendment
Fort Worth, Texas (May 8, 2018) – SelfDefenseFund.com known as the National Association for Legal Gun Defense announced last week on-line via its social media on Twitter and Facebook and later reported in the Temple Telegram, that their member CJ Grisham, retired and decorated Army First Sergeant and Founder of one of the nation’s largest gun rights groups Open Carry Texas was dismissed of charges of a 2nd degree felony of assaulting a police officer which Police Chief Rene Valenciano claimed happened on 3/27/18 in Olmos Park, Texas. Bexar County Criminal District Attorney’s dismissal cited “insufficient evidence” on April 30 and the misdemeanors May 3rd.
Grisham was charged with interfering with the duties of a public servant and obstruction of a passageway, both Class B misdemeanors.
SelfDefenseFund.com member and Combat Army Veteran James Everard was also arrested and charged with misdemeanors.
Both citizens were facing jail time for exercising their constitutional right to free speech and the 2nd amendment, peacefully.
“We are appreciative and thankful that the Bexar County District Attorney viewed our cases favorably on behalf of our two clients CJ Grisham and Jim Everard.” said Attorney JL Carpenter of Houston (www.JLCarpenterLaw.com), “The dismissals are a very positive step forward, but we still have more work to do in order to make sure that situations like this never happen to other law-abiding citizens in Olmos Park.”
A previously planned gun rights protest on April 7, 2018 sparked an increase in attendees who peacefully protested these arrests and over 540 gun-toting citizens and several prominent YouTubers live-cast across the nation and overseas. “Myself and radio host Doc Greene attended the protest in support of our members, fellow Texans and Americans who travelled from out of state,” says Andy Valadez, Marketing Director and Marine Veteran, “It is appalling to see abuse of power and evil intent on display live. For many who are concerned about gun rights, this makes people think ‘If they will treat decorated veterans who are lawfully armed this badly, how will they treat regular citizens, when there is ever a national call to disarm all law-abiding citizens?””
It is of note that the NRA convention was held over the weekend with peaceful support – no massive counter-protests as has been depicted in the media of late.
“I started SelfDefenseFund.com over 7 years ago with the foresight of knowing that we would need a membership like ours that is prepared to go to court and defend our members who would ordinarily go to prison in a self-defense situation and for us, defending against abuse of power also applies,” says Larry Keilberg, National Director, “We retain junk yard dog lawyers who bite and bite hard.”
